9 Items to Stock an Airbnb Bathroom
Let’s talk about how to stock an Airbnb bathroom, which items guests appreciate, and why this might matter more than any other room in the house.
There’s a strongly held and probably true belief in the short term rental space that a guest never wants to rent a home that is inferior to what they have in their actual home. There are, of course, exceptions, a mountain cabin may not be able to hold a candle in terms of finishes to an uptown loft, or a beachfront escape could be a little more bare bones than your new build in the suburbs. But, generally, you want to match or exceed what someone is used to in their day-to-day. That can be done with luxurious details, historic charm, or something that feels completely of a specific time and place.
And nowhere is that more true than in the bathroom. People want to feel pampered when they’re getting ready, not as if they’re wondering how many people have used this space before.
Which means the number one priority in your bathroom is making sure it’s updated and well-styled. But, beyond that, you also have to make sure it has everyone one might need.
Items to Stock an Airbnb Bathroom
Stocking an Airbnb bathroom can be a tricky proposition. I’ve seen Airbnbs boasting that they have towels and linens. Well, duh. That should be the baseline! You’ll
Toilet paper: Obviously. There should be a fresh roll or one that’s been stamped by cleaners, in addition to at least one extra roll per bathroom for a weekend stay. For longer stays, add additional rolls.
Hand towels: You have to have a towel ring and hand towel for washing hands. And don’t mess with decorative tea towels no one can use.
Towels: We provide two bath towels and one washcloth per guest.
Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash: We use the big TRESemme pump bottles with their branded labels removed and with pretty labels slapped on on them. We had a cleaner swear they’d get taken but, knock on wood, no issues yet! So much more sustainable than mini bottles for everyone.
Soap: We use nice soap dispensers and refill them as needed.
Hair dryer: We keep a hair dryer in every single bathroom, and we have a back stock in case there’s an issue (we actually have had one break before!).
First aid kit: Have a basic first aid kit on hand in case of any emergencies. The kit should include band-aids, pain relievers, and antiseptic wipes. You can buy a stocked one off Amazon.
Jewelry dish: People like to be able to take their jewelry off and not simply set it on the counter. Provide a dish for an easy place to put valuables.
Makeup towels: We provide black makeup towels so our washcloths don’t end up covered in mascara.
What Not to Stock in an Airbnb Bathroom
And, a quick final note on what not to stock in an Airbnb bathroom. We actually do not recommend stocking tissues or paper towels in the bathroom as guests sometimes can’t resist the temptation of flushing these items down the toilet. Take it from us, we’ve had more than a few emergency plumber calls, only to find “flushable” wipes or tissues stuffed down the toilet. Typically, it came from a guest or two prior, so it’s not a cost we can pass on.
